The Egyptian artist Marianne Fahmy came to us with a map: inspired by the Forma Urbis Romae and by ancient lines, filled with stories. A relief portrait of a moment of destruction in Alexandria's history, part of her series on future maps.
Based on his drawings, we developed a bespoke piece carved from Belgian Black granite, a dense and elegant stone chosen for its visual depth and monolithic character. The relief was carefully carved by CNC, respecting the precision of the original strokes, and finished with a sandblasted finish, giving the surface a smooth, matte texture that accentuates the tactile dimension and symbolic weight of the work.
At Olivah, we work alongside artists and designers who already have a precise design and are seeking hands, machines, and sensitivity to bring their ideas to life. We produce custom pieces, honoring the creator’s intent and the presence of stone as a living material. This work is the result of the encounter between art, technique, and matter, where every detail carries intention.
