Presented at the Forma Design Fair 2026 at Matadero Madrid, Damaso Mayer’s Arc series takes the arch as its structural principle—a form in which stability arises from geometry. [br] [br] The collection was developed using Portuguese lioz limestone, a vernacular stone from the building traditions of Portugal and Spain, deeply rooted in the Iberian urban landscape. By working with pre-extracted blocks, Damaso Mayer connects the project to the local territory and extends the material’s life cycle, using the material itself as the starting point for the design.
Olivah was involved from the initial curation phase, searching for and selecting these blocks, as well as managing the production process. The project evolved from the material itself, in a process where the stone dictated the proportions, boundaries, and language.
The pieces—a bench, a side table, and a coffee table—create a dialogue between two states of the material. The base remains rougher, preserving the marks of the manufacturing process, while the polished surfaces reveal fossils, sedimentation, and mineral variations. Throughout the collection, the stone remains suspended between the raw and the refined, evoking time and transformation.
The collaboration with Damaso Mayer reflects an alignment with Olivah’s vision of repurposing blocks that have already been quarried and materials set aside during the process, thereby offering new perspectives on the material and its potential.
